Alaskan baleen "double-basket" with swan figure. Ca.1945-55
Rare shape and unusual image.
Baleen is the food filtration system in the mouth of a whale.
The swan is carved from petrified walrus tusk or bone.
Indigenous tribes of North America were masters at the complete use
of animals they hunted. For both Utility and Art their skills are honed and
beautiful. |
