Lidded Baleen basket with Polar Bear eating Seal.
Made in Point Hope Alaska. Circa 1940-1955
Baleen comes from whales and is the food filtration device.
The bear and seal carving is amde from petrified walrus tusk or bone.
These baskets are woven for artistic purposes and can represent indigenous
life and materials.
These baskets are like little friends and reminders of the Alaskan wildlife. |
